We are often asked why we don't put 'popular' commercially-available music on our 4x4 event DVDs. The answer is simple: We can't. As these DVDs are available for sale to the general public (however small the market may be), they are classed as commercial titles. So, if we wish to use commercial music on the soundtrack we are forced to pay the exorbitant prices charged by the major record labels, who are extremely litigious when it comes to copyright infringement.
How exorbitant are their prices? For one song, repeated once on one DVD, Sony/BMG Music quoted over $10,000! So to fill a DVD with commercial music would cost in the order of $450,000 thereby making each copy of a DVD cost over $2,000. Obviously an impossible price.
So instead of using commercial music, we have decided to showcase emerging talent in the Australian music scene.
These groups have provided us with music to use on the DVD soundtracks, adding to your entertainment and keeping the cost of the DVDs at a realistic level. Please visit their sites, and support new Australian music.
